A Riddle in Four Parts
Long ago, my dream was to be an author. Life, somehow, got in the way. Or, perhaps, my will was not unbending enough to endure the passing years with enough focused determination to keep that dream alive. Perhaps I was too young. Either way, life’s too short to have regrets over these sort of could-have-been’s. But, full of myself and just turning the corner into adulthood, I wrote my first novella in the winter of 2009, an exercise in myth, symbolism, writing that turns in on itself, and a love letter to my literary heroes. I recently discovered it, and felt like sharing, because it’s interesting to see who I was then.
